Description Adopted on 6 March 1945 at the Inter-American Conference on Problems of War and Peace held in Chapultepec, by Mexico City, Mexico, by the delegates of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Remark
Entered into force 8 March 1945.

Affirmed the equality of all rights for all human beings "whatever their race or their religion" and resolved to undertake joint action in repelling any aggression against an American State. This latter commitment was formalized by the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR) and constituted a significant step in the history of Pan-Americanism. (The Charter of the Organization of American States is another significant document in this field.)
